½ Day Epic Tour

½ Day Epic Tour

Visit the "Intergalactic Headquarters" – the Epic company headquarters – for an experience straight out of a fantasy novel. The experience is other-worldly – not to mention beautiful, interesting, and fun.

The 1,100-acre headquarters of medical-software giant Epic Systems is located in the rolling farm country of Verona. Over two dozen themed buildings that include nods to Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Wizard of Oz, Harry Potter, and more allow visitors to escape into a wonderland of art and entertainment.

Trust us: You will find one day is not enough time to explore the huge expanse of fantastical buildings and the massive collection of art on the campus.

Take a 1/2 (or full) day self-guided tour around the 9-million-square-foot campus. In this itinerary, we round up our favorite stops throughout the campus – with a recommendation of where to eat before, during, and after the trip – for a perfect 1/2 day, self-guided tour.

Learn more about Epic and its founding here and view a map of the full campus here.

Grace Coffee Co.

1. Grace Coffee Co.

Start your day at Grace Coffee Co. before heading to the Epic Campus for your 1/2 day tour.

The Madison-based local coffee chain expanded to Verona – because locals couldn't get enough of their food and drink throughout the region. Grace Coffee has an expansive menu of delectable eats and hand-crafted coffee drinks.

Favorites include breakfast cocktails (great for brunchin'), breakfast sammies, and everything avocado toast.

Epic Systems' Intergalactic Headquarters

2. Epic Systems' Intergalactic Headquarters

Start your tour by parking and heading to the Epic Intergalactic Headquarters main entrance.

Here you'll swing by the registration desk to pick up a map for a self-guided tour. As you explore, you may encounter magic at the Wizards campus, see some familiar faces at the Storybook campus, or even encounter some furry friends at Epic's functioning farm.

Self-guided tours are offered at specific times during the week and on weekends. Check out hours for self-guided tours here.

3. Deep Space

Continue to Deep Space, where Epic team meetings and events go where no other gatherings have gone before! This one-of-a-kind, partially underground center is a realm of wonder, where the over 10,000 can be seated. Themed like MiddleEarth, you'll walk the halls with endless views of art inspired by outer space.

Lou’s Soda Fountain

4. Lou’s Soda Fountain

Pit-stop at Lou's Soda Fountain, named after Epic founder Judy’s father, who owned a pharmacy with a soda fountain. It's the perfect place for an afternoon ice cream cone or shake. All of the ice cream flavors (classic vanilla bean, chocolate, and strawberry) are made in house at Epic. You can take a look at this spot’s namesake on a large photo on the wall, and catch a glimpse of a baby carriage which presumably holds Judy.

The Barn

5. The Barn

At the Barn work becomes a delightful countryside journey! This not-so-typical office building houses over 300 employees who trot into their charming “stalls” each day, ready to gallop through the fields of productivity.

From the outside, it’s a rustic and picturesque structure that blends seamlessly with the surrounding farmland. Perched on the edge of the 350-acre Epic Farm (a real working farm), the Barn boasts stunning views that rival even the finest pastoral paintings. As you peep through the office windows, you might spot a cow happily grazing or a goat jumping over to supervise a brainstorming session.

6. Treehouse

Visit the fantastical realm of Endor – a Treehouse conference room that magically brings the charm of the forest to Epic's meetings.

Perched among the branches and lovingly named after a certain famous forest moon, this unique gem showcases our dedication to creativity and sustainability. Constructed from recycled materials, Endor stands as a testament to the artistry of a local school project, where young minds harnessed the force of imagination to craft this enchanting space.

Chocolate Factory

7. Chocolate Factory

Get your chocolate fix at the Chocolate Factory, a stop inspired by Willy Wonka. The entire Epic campus feels like Willy Wonka, to be honest, but you'll especially love this whimsical walk through candy land within the Storybook Campus.

Emerald City

8. Emerald City

Click your heels and step into the magical realm of Oz at Emerald City. This enchanting and extraordinary building is a playful tribute to the timeless movie Wizard of Oz and is complete with a yellow brick road that leads you on the journey.

This section of the tour journeys through the Storybook Campus, featuring 5 buildings and gardens representing children's classics – from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

9. King's Cross

Don't miss out on a delicious lunch at King's Cross, located in Epic’s corporate headquarters building. Feeding both the public and employees, this whimsical cafeteria space is modeled after London’s famous King’s Cross train station.

The cafeteria with a robust menu of food has a Harry Potter feel to it, inspired by the series but taking its own unique approach to the castle-like design.

Wizards Academy

10. Wizards Academy

At the Wizard Academy Campus, each building is a magical masterpiece – carefully designed to ignite the spark of imagination within everyone who walks its halls.

The meeting rooms and desk areas are adorned with spellbinding murals and moving portraits that inspire wonder and creativity. Epic staff are their own version of accomplished wizards, drawing inspiration from within the walls in which they work.

Stone Porch Ale House

11. Stone Porch Ale House

End your day back in town on the outskirts of Verona at Stone Porch Alehouse. This neighborhood spot for southern-inspired comfort food warms the soul. Fill up on decadent fried chicken, impeccably prepared seafood, and Wisconsin classics too. The taphouse features a robust collection of local and regional beers as well as cocktails, beer, and wine. Happy Hour, anyone?!
